Why merge tags?

With multiple versions of the same tags naturally emerging in a taxonomy over time, or misspellings creeping in, from time to time you may want to merge multiple tags in to a single existing one.

Example

• A client has in their ‘Era’ tag category both the tags ‘1980s’ and ‘80s’
• The client doesn’t want both in this category and just want the ‘80s’ tag to be used
• ‘1980s’ can be merged into the tag that is wanted in this category to solve this issue

How to merge tags

• Log into the admin
• Navigate to Catalog > Tags
• Select the tag you want to be merged
• In the right hand edit panel, rename the tag the name of the tag you’d like to merge into (e.g. 1980s gets renamed 80s for the merge to occur)
• Press save
• Refresh the page to see the change

The two tags will now be merged into one. If the tag was assigned to many tracks / albums / playlists, there may be a delay as we loop over the set, and re-save all the instances.
